Black Queer Therapy

At BPOQe, Doster and Hoffman Therapy and Consultation we recognize Black, queer and Black queer folks have a more difficult time finding spaces that are not just "friendly" but affirming. The idea of just being a friendly space is inadequate and outdated. Our unique intersectionalities deserve to be celebrated, centered, and visible.

What is Black Queer Therapy?

Black queer therapy is therapy that celebrates and recognizes Black, queer, and Black queer people. At BPOQe, we are committed to meeting our clients where they are. We have a pro-Black and pro-queer team of therapists that are committed to providing quality access to mental health care for people who identify these historically underserved and marginalized client populations.

Experiencing Symptoms of Depression and Anxiety as a Black, Queer, or Black Queer Person

Symptoms of depression and anxiety are the most common mental illnesses experienced by many people. The rates at which Black, queer, and Black queer people experience symptoms of these mental illnesses are greatly exacerbated by factors and risks that their cisgender, white, and heteronormative peers do not face. Trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms are also quite common within these communities. Childhood trauma due to lack of acceptance, racial trauma, intergenerational trauma, interpersonal trauma, complex trauma, etc., are some examples.
